I am a rock/pop-punk/cover song studio musician. I am a multi-instrumentalist and currently, I am running a Kickstarter campaign called "Oldies Volume 1". Ask Me Anything!

Nov 9, 2017

Hi. My name is Josh Moose and I have a solo project called "Punk Cover Moose". PCM is a Rock/Pop-Punk artist doing "one man band" covers of oldies songs every 3rd Wednesday along with a music video. Every third Wednesday, I release a new rock/pop-punk style cover song of an oldies tune along with a video. I arrange the music, record all of the instruments, mix it together then I shoot the video and edit it together! Check out my music videos.

I recently reached 100,000 views on my YouTube Channel, 20,000 follows on my Facebook fan page, and reached almost 39% of my Kickstarter goal!

This AMA will be with the brain behind it all, Josh Moose! Ask me anything but don't get out of control. I currently have a Kickstarter to fund my printing and pressing of physical CDs and Vinyl. The album will consist of the first 12 releases from February 2017 - January 2018.

Nov 10, 4:26AM EST0

do you mean "collaborate"?

Nov 10, 10:22AM EST0

Do you have any adivce on how to create your own style. I am starting to write new music (electronic) and want to create something authentic. However I have so many influences tugging me in so many different directions

Nov 9, 9:32PM EST1

Hmm... I never really focus too much on what I want to write I just kind of let it do it... you know? That is cheesy as S*** I know but I listen to so many different things I would never get anything written. I pull influences from everything I listen to (or get inspired by things that aren't music) but never determine who I am. I hope that makes sense dude :)

Have you performed for a live audience, yet?

Nov 9, 9:03PM EST1

As my current solo project, Punk Cover Moose, I have not performed live. However, I've played live too many times count! I've played all over the east coast and midwest of the U.S.

Nov 9, 9:35PM EST0

Saw your video Josh on Kickstarter. That was great man!

Nov 10, 4:53AM EST0

Will you make an album?

Nov 7, 3:15PM EST1

Yep! I currently have a Kickstarter campaign up to fund it! You can check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2117581405/punk-cover-moose-oldies-volume-1/

Which drumm is better for a beginner, electric or standard?

Nov 7, 2:57PM EST1

hmmm... That's a complex question! If you live in an area where you can't be loud I would get an electronic kit. The best way to learn IMO is on an acoustic kit because electric kits never feel the same. When I lived in an apartment and couldn't be loud, I split rent on a storage unit with a friend and practiced drums there.

Would you say that the best musicians are the young ones coming up or the older generation with a club-loads of experience?

Nov 7, 11:34AM EST1

I'm not really sure how to answer that. It's really not a competition. Everyone should play because they love it and if the put anyone down for being older or younger they can buzz the heck off!

Nov 9, 9:28PM EST0

Is it hard to manage a one man band?

Nov 7, 9:48AM EST1

Yes, very! but the fun is all worth it!

Nov 9, 9:26PM EST0

What kind of audience do you wish to appeal to?

Nov 6, 10:00PM EST1

Anyone that enjoys what I do is all I need. I don't care who you are, where you're from, what you did, as long as you love me! (Backstreet Boys Lyrics)

Nov 9, 9:26PM EST0

Hi, Josh! I'm actually your new fan. Haha! I loved oldies and your personality as well. (Just don't get the chance to ask you during your first AMA haha) Anyway, I'm wondering how you're able to do everything from filming, editing and even starting up a campaign - do you have someone or a group of people at your back who supported a "one-man band" like you along the way?

Nov 6, 6:23PM EST1

Thank you Jesa! I'm glad you enjoy everything! (I love the site btw) I literally EVERYTHING. Occasionally I have a friend who offers his or her help but I still to 99.9% of the work!

So to answer you question... I don't know how I'm able to do everything! haha

Thank you again for reaching out :)

Nov 9, 9:20PM EST0

What exactly started your love for beats?

Nov 6, 7:37AM EST1

I deal with "beets" more than "beats"...

Nov 9, 9:20PM EST0

How long have you been in this field?

What's your favorite accessory that you just couldn't live without?

Nov 4, 8:06AM EDT1

Nov 9, 9:15PM EST0

What do you want to achieve in the music business?

As long as I'm able to keep creating and being with my family I consider myself successful. :)

Nov 9, 9:13PM EST0

How do you know when you've hit a favorite with your audience?

Nov 3, 12:13PM EDT1

Views and watch time is usually a good way to spot a crowd pleaser!

Nov 9, 9:12PM EST0

How are you going to promote your music?

Nov 3, 11:22AM EDT1

Talking and networking is the most important I think. However, I utilize the internet in many different ways. I'm constantly researching to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to marketing online. What I do this month may not be what I'm doing next month. Everything just changes so fast!

Nov 9, 9:11PM EST0

Who is your favorite artist?

Nov 3, 11:22AM EDT1

Oh boy, that's really tough... lately i've been getting into Sonreal and State Champs (2 totally different styles of music, I know!) I don't think I could ever pick just one!

Nov 9, 9:08PM EST0

What kind of speakers do you use normally?

Nov 3, 9:57AM EDT1

In my studio, I mainly mix on Event ASP8's. Anywhere else I'm ok with the factory speakers usually. It helps you get to know mixes a little better!

Nov 9, 9:06PM EST0

Do you make good money as a musician?

Nov 3, 7:22AM EDT1

I have a roof over my head and clothes on my back so I'm happy :)

Nov 9, 9:04PM EST0

Do you use a digital deck or do you prefer old-school vinyl?

Nov 3, 2:49AM EDT1

Depends on the situation but being an audio engineer I like to listen on the highest quality medium if possible! :)
